Written By : SUN FIJI NEWSROOM. The family of Shavneet Kumar are pursuing legal action after they were shocked by the decision handed down by the Public Service Commission.
His father Sanju said the fines of $500 and $250 respectively on the doctors who treated Shavneet were not justified and they would take the matter to court .
He said their son’s life was so valuable and those responsible should be brought to justice.
He said they had spoken to lawyer Vijay Maharaj who would pursue the matter in the courts.
“We are not happy with the decision. We will take the matter to court because our son deserves justice. We have discussed it with our lawyer and the matter is being handled by him,” said Mr Kumar.
He said they had been denied justice and hoped that the courts would bring those responsible to justice.
The commission maintained its stand on fines imposed on doctors involved in Shavneet’s death.
Doctors Luke Nasedra and Theresa Lum were found guilty of negligence by the commission and fined $500 and $250 respectively.
Chairman Rishi Ram said after thorough and careful consideration of all submissions and documentary evidence received during the hearing, the commission found both doctors guilty of committing disciplinary offences within the meaning of section 6(2) of the Public Service Act which stated an employee must act with care and diligence in the course of employment within the public service.
The doctors after being slapped with the fines were also reminded of their right to appeal.
