Written By : SUN FIJI NEWSROOM. The Samoan Government has issued the third public broadcasting licence to a new commercial television channel, expected to go to air in February next year.
Radio New Zealand International says Cook Islands media owner, George Pitt, is a major shareholder in the new television company.
Mr Pitt is also one of the shareholders in Samoa Broadcasting Limited (SBL), which earlier this year took over the operation of TV1 from the government.
A local veteran broadcaster and former president of the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA), Apulu Lance Polu, is reportedly working with Mr Pitt in establishing the new commercial channel.
Called Star Television, it will operate from the studios of the Christian Graceland Broadcasting Network at Levili in Apia, from where LAU TV had operated until it collapsed through financial difficulties.-PNS
