Sevens officials blame council

Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. The Nausori Town Council is to be blamed for booking two tournaments at their Vodafone Ratu Cakobau Park.
This has led to the deferment of the Nadera Old Boys Association tournament.
Nadera tournament chairman, Naibuka Koroi yesterday said they were supposed to meet with the Nausori Town Council treasurer, Nilay Chand, but it did not eventuate.
The Nadera Old Boys Association only learnt through the media that their bookings for January 23- 24 have been cancelled and confirmation has been given to the other party.
“We were supposed to meet today (yesterday) but he said they were busy.
“They have emailed us saying that the only free days in January is 16 and 17.”
Koroi said the tournament date cannot be postponed because the ground has been booked until February.
“That’s the date they have given us and it would probably be the date of our tournament instead of January 23- 24.”
Koroi said Nilay told them that the expelled Nausori Town Clerk confirmed the booking to Solomoni Cakau and the Great Sea Reef Sevens tournament.
“We just want to apologise to those that wanted to play in the tournament for the initial given dates.
“It’s not our fault as we did our part but we still invite them to come on January 16 and 17.
“If some are wondering of the tournament date please be notified that it has been re-scheduled to the 16 and 17.”
Koroi said they are looking for 48 teams with $200 as the registration fee.
“We ask teams that have registered to please confirm registration as the dates have moved forward,” he added.
