Written By : SUN FIJI NEWSROOM. Residents at Wanadoi outside Suva are concerned about the damage to the feeder road by 10-wheeler trucks carting gravel.
Advisory councilor Suken Chand said one of the residents in the area extracts the gravel from the crown land and transports this to a contractor in Navua.
He said the trucks had damaged the land and the feeder road.
“He sells the gravel to the contractor in Navua and everybody is complaining about the condition of the road and the land which is left behind with big holes and no one is there to repair them,” he said.
He said several complaints were made to the land department but there was no response
Lands and Survey Department director Pasario Semisoni said the person must have obtained a license to extract the gravel and the complain should come to him directly.
He said Mr Chand should bring all the copies of complaints to him.
He said if the person was extracting the gravel without maintaining the access to it then his license can be revoked as the license was given with conditions.
“The response should come from the divisional office, if they do not respond then I will attend to the complaint made,’’ he said.
