image Written By : SUN FIJI SPORTSDESK. Former national rugby winger Kavekini Nalaga urges his son Napolioni Vonowale Nalaga to deliver the goods for the Digicel sevens team during the Rugby 7s World Cup tournament in Dubai on Friday.
Kavekini said he called his son on skype and advised him on the importance of doing everything right on the field – something important for the national side if they want to win back the Melrose Cup.
Nalaga copped a red card while featuring for the Pacific Islanders team against France during the November tour last year.
“I called my boy (Nalaga) through skype call last two days and advised him to be on the alert while on the field. I told him that red card should not be flashed and dangerous plays and late tackles should not be committed,” he said.
“I reminded him that now he represents the nation at the four-yearly event and should do his utmost best for the nation in defending the Melrose Cup again.
“Even though he played brilliantly for his Clermont club in France, playing and wearing the national jumper brings out the best from a player and I believe there would more wonders from him in Dubai.
“I’m proud of him and I had faith in my son and all the gladiators to be at their very best in winning the Melrose Cup for the third time.
“I’m expecting my son to be the star of the tournament and together with his team mates be the main subject when the three day tournament kicks-off on Friday.”
Kavekini then urged the nation to support the national team since these were the best 12 warriors which we should placed our trust on them to bring back the glory.
He said even New Zealand playmaker Tomasi Cama Jnr talks about the national side which shows something extraordinary from this team.
“We have the size, strength, speed and the experience but all we have to do now is to hold together as one nation and support our national side in Dubai.”
Nalaga played for the Digicel 7s team during the first leg of the 2006/2007 IRB seven series.
