image Written By : LAVENIA VUADREU. Dennis Lal is relishing the upcoming season with the Suva Tennis Association.
The Association vice-president made the comment after another successful girls’ clinic at the Victoria Courts in Suva yesterday.
“We begin the clinic right after the end of school and we are happy with the response generated,” Lal said.
“In fact, what is more satisfying, I guess is the turnout we have been receiving from interested girls. We have experienced for the past few years the lack of interest from girls to take up tennis. So this is another way we hope to bring up the number,” he said.
“When we started off we had about 32 girls who turned up in the two sessions we hold each week- being on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today, however there has been a slight decrease. I’m guessing this is because it’s New Year’s Eve. But I believe the number should be back up next month.”
Lal said those that did attend were fortunate to have met Natabua High School student and national rep Devashkar Reddy and learn a thing or two from his experience.
“So you see, participants at the clinic were lucky to have him share his knowledge with them,” said Lal.
In the past few days, participants were exposed to different aspects and perspectives on how to improve their skills, techniques and understanding of the game.
Participants were also taught on the importance of fitness and that it is important in tennis as it is in other sports for players to maintain their fitness.
