Written By : SUN FIJI SPORTSDESK. South Pacific welterweight champion, Wahid Khan is confident of a knockout win over Opeti Tagi in their title clash on January 23 at Vodafone Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Khan’s manager Radhika yesterday said heavyweight boxer Iobe Ledua is helping out in their preparation.
“I’ve never seen Wahid so dedicated in his training,” she said.
Radhika pointed out that after their controversial fight in Suva, Khan has been training hard ever since.
“We’re going to move a step up from January 4 where Khan moves on to train at the Kennedy Gym in Nadi. We know that Opeti has been fighting regularly but Khan has been training hard also.”
She said that they are confident of a knockout win and claim the national welterweight title.
Meanwhile, promoter Abdul Khan said the January 23 programme is an action packed one.
He said in another 12-round light welterweight title clash, Junior ‘The Razor’ Ali takes on Waisele Ratu for the third time.
Ali has won both their earlier encounters and is looking forward to end Ratu’s boxing career.
In the heavyweight elimination clash, Ledua faces Alipate Nagata of Navosa in an eight-round fight.
The winner is in line of a heavyweight title clash against Petero Qica of Suva.
The 20 year-old Qica has already scored two impressive knockout wins.
Another interesting showdown is between hard hitting Abhay Chand of Navosa who meets up with Tevita ‘Hillman’ Ligaitukuna of Jittu Boxing Stable in a six-round fight.
Chand who scored a points win over Pita Tabuarua is determined to knockout Ligaitukuna as he chases for a return fight against Joeli Naleca.
