No more excuses, Vunivalu tells Tueli

Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. The coach of a Nadi Rugby Union affiliated club Mosi has called on Nemani Tueli to stop giving lame excuses of the side’s non-performance last year.
Samu Vunivalu who is a former national rugby flanker yesterday said Nadi’s poor performance last year was due to the poor organisation of the club competition.
“The Nadi Rugby Union club competition for 2009 was not completed,” he said.
“The affiliation fees charged to the clubs was $500 per team.
“All teams in Nadi are village based and we usually pay $100. But since this group came in, they suddenly charged us $500 for affiliation fees.
“Nearly none of the teams turned up during the first round because they were all busy trying to find ways to get the money.”
Vunivalu said his concern is on the struggle of the clubs while the union executives are there only to make money.
“They give the flood as an excuse of the unfinished KK Shield Challenge. “Nadroga and Lautoka were also flooded but yet they completed their club competition.”
The Union had earlier highlighted that the sacking of former Nadi team manager Pita Bolea was the reason for Vunivalu’s comment to the media.
However, the former policeman denied this saying his concern is really on the village teams.
“We are more concerned about being village teams paying an affiliation fee of $500 but yet most of the time there were no club games because they could not find any referees. The fact is that the Nadi Rugby Union could not afford to pay them.”
“I am speaking on behalf of the delegates of the senior A and senior B teams. We don’t need Tueli in our meeting this Friday in Nawaka and I’m calling on all club managers and delegates to come to the urgent meeting at the Nawaka Village hall,” he added.
