Friends, relatives farewell Tui Tavua

image Written By : ANA MADIGIBULI. Tui Tavua Ratu Totivi Kama Bokini was buried at his chiefly home at Tavualevu Village yesterday.
The funeral was attended by close family members, relatives, villagers of Tavualevu and friends of the late chief who gathered to pay their last respects yesterday.
Those present during the funeral included the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Minister for Education Filipe Bole, Former Prime Minister Ratu Tevita Momoedonu and Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki.
Speaking on behalf of the chiefly family was the late and former Tui Tavua Ratu Ovini Bokini’s son, Ratu Inoke Bokini.
He said Ratu Totivi was one of those hard working men who was committed to his chiefly role as the Tui Tavua in looking after the people of Tavua.
He said the people present during the funeral showed his Ratu’s heart and how he had always put them first in whatever he did.
“He is the sixth of the 15 siblings and he was indeed a productive man. He showed kindness and grace to all who entered Tavualevu Village,” he said. “Even though he held the title of Tui Tavua for a short time, he was committed throughout and all of us present today know that this is the truth.”
Saimoni Tuilaucala, who spoke on behalf of the vanua of Tavua, said he had never known such a man who was knowledgeable about his surroundings.
He said Ratu Totivi spent his time farming and fishing and he was always there for his family and the people of Tavua.
He said the death of Ratu Totivi had brought relatives together and that all were present to pay their last respects to a man who he had always called the economist of the village.
“He is indeed an economist of Tavua.
He knows of what, when and how things were being done and he had over the years familiarised himself with what was happening in Tavua. It was one of the strong qualities that he held as Tui Tavua,” he said.
