Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. Former Navua coach Gurjit Singh is helping the Southern Forest sponsored side for the first round of the Innk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament at the tfl National Stadium on Sunday.
Singh said it was his duty as acting National coach to help districts that needs help.
“Two districts asked for my help and thus I’m helping Navua and Nadroga,”Singh said.
He coached Nadroga in the Vodafone Fiji FACT before he was given the position to mentor the national side for the Pacific Games later this month.
Singh says Navua’s capable of doing well in the tournament despite losing some key players.
“They have lost two really good defenders in Lorima Dau and Rajneel Chand,”Singh said.
“There are a few young strikers here in the team but they still need a lot of polishing up on their skills and we are also waiting for Salvador Vergara.”
Dau has joined Rewa, Chand has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury and they are only left with Pene Erenio, Seveci Rokotakala, and Simione Maikali to lead the young team.
But Singh is confident that Navua should be able to cope with the challenge ahead now with Siga Ali back and former Suva player Joshua Tuasulia fitting in well to the team.
However, he believes Ali would need to work a little more on his fitness after not having any game time from the beginning of the season and Vergara might find it a little bit difficult to cope with the ground conditions in Fiji.
Navua plays Nadi at 11am on Sunday at 11am.
