Written By : MERE NALEBA. The Saunaka rugby team is confident of winning their last weekly rugby challenge this week against Airport on Sunday.
After defending the Nadi Rugby Union Sportszone Tanoa series for six consecutive weeks, the side is now adamant to lift their game plan to defend the title for the seventh time.
Sabeto was the first to challenge Saunaka side for the Tanoa but failed in their quest after Saunaka thumped the side 20 – 6. In their second weekly challenge, the side won against Police 14-13.
In their third game against Tovolea, the side survived against the Moala-based team 11-10. The same happened in their fourth challenge where a tired Saunaka side was almost robbed of the Tanoa series trophy after the Gaunavou rugby team grabbed their five points through a unconverted try, but the Saunaka team answered with two successful penalty kicks which saw them getting away with a 6-5 win.
Nawaka was the fifth challenger but were unlucky after Saunaka got away with another narrow 11-10 win. The Dratabu team had displayed an exceptional performance but a much fired-up Saunaka won the game in a 11-6 match.
The Joeli Lotawa-coached side is adamant of changing their game form in their bid to defend the title for the seventh week. The young Saunaka side, is made up mostly of the Ratu Navula Secondary Schools players who are members of the Under-17 and U18 grades.
The side meets Airport on Saturday 3pm at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
