Police will tighten and increase security measures in the Western Division as a host of parties and organised events are anticipated to usher in the New Year tonight.
Following a tumultuous year that saw two major floods and a Category 4 tropical cyclone ravage parts of the division, major street parties are scheduled to be held in Nadi, Lautoka and Ba with people hoping for a better year in 2013.
‘’There will be an increase in Police visibility as we want to create a safe environment for people to welcome in 2013 without any incidents,’’ Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said.
Nightclub owners are also reminded to take extra precautions as they would be monitored to ensure no minors are allowed into their establishments.
Police will also increase mobile and foot patrols throughout central business districts and residential areas in all towns and cities in the Western Division.
