Can you imagine roan you imagine watching your child in his first play even though you are overseas attending a conference? Technology today has gone far beyond what a man would call impossible ten years ago.
The same technology has taken a new turn called telepresence that gives you a reason to never be torn apart between two situations that equally demand your presence. aming around the office and talking to your colleagues without being in the country?

What is telepresence?
Telepresence uses current technology in a manner that has taken being there to a different league altogether.
This technology can allow you to manage your remote office, attend meetings and participate in office functions without being physically present.
Telepresence has been modified to create a robot with movement controls, screen, microphone, camera and speakers that allow you to control the robot from a computer anywhere in the world.
The communication is passed over the internet while using the iPad as a two-way video chatting tool.
The design is minimal so that it doesn’t distract people or attract undue attention.
These robots have some interesting features such as the ability to reduce the length of the pole with a button and to tilt to get a better view.
The motorised wheels have a sensor that enables the robot to navigate without bumping into objects or people.

This technology can be used for:

  • Client meetings
  • Socialising
  • Inspecting work and monitoring progress
  • Employee or student supervision

As of now there are a number of different Telepresence robots available for sale. Their price ranges from US$1999 (FJ$3520) up to US$16,000 (FJ$28,178).
The purchase can be justified by saving as little as one round-trip to an international destination, the one you didn’t have to take because you had a robot doubling up for you.

This technology can help save costs of:

  • Travel
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Transportation
  • Time
