The latest typhoid outbreak in Koroboya village, in the Ba interior could lead to the village being relocated.
The restrictions in the village are for the safety of the people, Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki also said there yesterday.
Commander Cawaki led a team of officials from the Ministry of Education, Health, Disaster Management Committee (DISMAC), Itaukei Land Trust Board as they made an assessment of the situation.
During the meeting, Commander Cawaki assured the villagers that their plight was not forgotten despite the difficulties in reaching the area.
One of the measures being considered is the relocation of the village. Commander Cawaki  said this could happen after the relocation of their school which was waiting for lease approval.
This was the second reported typhoid outbreak in the area and authorities hope to contain the water-borne disease through the new measures.
“We humbly ask you villagers that in the next two weeks from now, as part of the rehabilitation plan from the Government, there will be no movement in and out of the village,” Commander Cawaki told the villagers inside the village parish.
“This is the second time there is an outbreak of typhoid here, there is no need for going to town and even visiting relatives, just celebrate the New Year and do the merry making within the village.”
The Government had already delivered food rations including flour, and sugar to sustain the 70 villagers during the restricted movement period.
“Just attend to your respective plantation, clean your village thoroughly which is important. Food rations for two weeks had been supplied rather then going to the town to buy sugar and flour and other groceries.”
