Vodafone Friendly North Festival is here

As the 2013 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival comes to an end at Albert Park Suva, the Northern Division gears up for the opening of the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North 2013 in Labasa today.
The festival will be held at Subrail Park, starting with a march through the main town.
The festival committee aims to raise more than $150,000 this year for a dialysis centre.
This was confirmed by secretary of the committee, Ramesh Chand yesterday over the phone.
“This major project is for the wellbeing of the people, and we are awaiting the Ministry of Health to officially announce it today,” he said.
The Minister for Health, Dr Neil Sharma, confirmed that he had good news for the Northern Division.
Mr Chand said the event has been a much-awaited event for many of the Northerners and it will begin with style.
“The new category we have included is the Lady contestants where there are four of them.”
Mr Chand said contestants had been preparing for the festival and were all ready to battle for the crowns for all categories from today.
The festival theme is “Healthy Living, Healthy North.” Mr Chand said they would be creating awareness on various health issues.
This year there are seven Queen contestants. They are Miss Labasa Town Council Elizabeth Lakalaka, Miss Charan Jeath Group of Companies Gurmeet Kaur, Miss Fiji Sugar Corporation Losalini Loloma, Miss Hotel North Pole Salote Soko, Miss TISI Sangam School of Nursing Angaline Dayal, Miss APCO Sharon Falo and Miss Labasa Hospital Silivina Shivangani.
There are four King contestants – Mr Parmod Enterprises Limited Peni Koroi, Mr APCO coatings Moheen Khan, Mr Foundation for the Education of Needy Children Tabua Kaukimoce and Mr Pinto Industries Limited Pawan Shivlay Chand.
The festival ends on August 31.
