France Rugby second tier club Agen last week announced the signing of former Flying Fijian lock, Apisalome Ratuniyarawa from North Harbour on a short term basis.
The Fijian joins up with the Pro D2 side for a reported three months to help act as cover for the side, who recently suffered a setback with the injury of Leo Bastien who is out due to damaged knee ligaments.
The giant lock, capped eight times by Fiji so far, has arrived in Agen ahead of a medical, before he confirms the move from his New Zealand Club, North Harbour.
Ratuniyarawa will join his elder brother, Sekonaia Kalou in France, who plays lock for another D2 side, Bourg-en-Bresse.
Having been relegated from the Top 14 last season, the 1.97m, 117kg Fijian will hope to contribute to Agen’s hopes to immediately return to the top flight of French rugby.
The former Naitasiri player who also plied his trade for Tailevu this season will surely learn a lot from his time in Europe, especially under the leadership of Agen’s director of Rugby, French rugby legend Philippe Sella, who won 111 caps at the centre position for his national side.
