It is the dream of most international referees to witness and be part of 7s tournaments hosted by Fiji, says James Bolabiu.
This dream has come true for three top IRB referees who have been given the nod to officiate at the FIJI Water Centennial International 7s this weekend.
Australian referees Matthew O’ Brien, Anthony Moyes and New Zealander Nick Briant will officiate at the 7s tournament together with two upcoming Samoan referees Tui Komiti, Kelekolio Petelo and our very own Bolabiu and Kaveni Talemaivalagi.
“Most of these referees I have officiated with at international tournaments always want to experience what this rugby crazy nation Fiji is like when hosting tournament,” Bolabiu said.
“This is one of the great opportunities for our local players to learn from the best referees in the 7s circuit.
“I urge all local rugby fans to turn up in numbers and be part of this tournament as this will be like any other international tournament we watch on television.”
Bolabiu said it was also pleasing to see the inclusion of IRB’s Paddy O’Brien in the tournament as Referee Manger/Reviewer.
“This is a positive start as it opens doors for Fiji in hosting international 7s tournaments.
“We look forward to Fiji hosting IRB sanctioned 7s tournaments in the near future now that top referees and officials have been invited to be part of this tournament,” Bolabiu said.
