Former Jacks Nadi Under- 20 flanker Lemeki Nabalei is enjoying every bit of his rugby season with Rugby Club Municipal (RCM) Timişoara in Romania.
Last Saturday his team won the second Super Liga CEC Bank (Romanian Rugby Championship title) back to back defeating RCM Stiinta Baia Mare 25-19 in the pulsating finale.
The 20 year old Yako, Nadroga native has been instrumental for the club and was happy that his team defeated their opponents which featured Namosi native Shawn Morrell who played at centre.
“It was good to see that my team defended the title well,” Nabalei said.
The versatile flanker has been instrumental in the forwards pack scoring five tries from 12 appearances in his first season.
“I had weighed 135kg when I arrived and now it is 113 kg due to the type of training that we do and the diet.”
He misses Fiji a lot but his Tongan teammates Fonovai Tagimaimanu (centre) and the two props Sione Taupaki and Isaia Halalilo makes him at home.
“During the evenings, the three Tongan boys and I would do our bible studies.”
The club is coached by former Springbok winger Chester Williams and he plays alongside former Waikato Chiefs winger Soseni Anisi, while Roy Kinikinilau’s younger brother Paula plays at centre.
“We’ve completed the competition similar to Digicel Cup in Fiji and now looks forward to the European Challenge Cup in few weeks time,” he added.
Nabalei hails from rugby rich family as his elder brother’s Timoci and Mesake Davu have represented Fiji in 7s and played flankers for Nadroga.
Jonacani Batirua played for the Jacks Nadi team whiles his dad Nabalei Snr was a former lock forward and played alongside Vuniani Varo and Nasivi Ravouvou in the 80’s for the Jets.
