Anil Diwakar, 59 and his wife, Suman Lata, of Caqiri Road in Valelevu, Nasinu, are mourning the loss of their only son, Atendra Diwakar.
According to the Police the 29- year old salesman was driving a vehicle when it hit a lamp post at Yasiyasi Road, Nadera, Suva, at six in the morning last Saturday. Two other passengers were in the car.
Mr Diwakar said his son left their home to drop off his two friends that Saturday morning and was shocked when he received a call that their car was involved in an accident at Nadera.
“When my wife and I went to the scene of the crash we saw the car but our son wasn’t inside and we later received word he had been taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital,” Mr Diwakar said.
The loss of their son was heart-wrenching, he said, something they were still trying to come to terms with.
Mr Diwakar said the funeral service was planned for Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Police have confirmed the driver was conveyed to the CWM Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said the case allegedly was a drink and drive one, as the deceased smelt heavily of liquor.
Ms Naisoro said the two passengers had fled from the scene.
The Police have reiterated that while the search continues for the other two passengers this unfortunate incident is once again a reminder that drinking and driving is a deadly mix.
