The Fiji Football Association will no longer accept excuses from coaches and technical officials that there are no funds to carry out football development programmes in Fiji.
This was the assurance from the Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, following a $5million signing between the association, Vodafone Fiji and CJ Patel Pacific at Fiji FA House in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday.
“Fighting for sponsors have always been a problem for us from previous years…I wish to sincerely thank both companies for coming on board,” Patel said.
“Today we have achieved what has never been achieved in years here at the Fiji FA.
“This sponsorship will be in cash, in kind and marketing and will be for tournaments, grassroots developments as well as sponsorship for our national teams.”
CJ Patel Group Pacific marketing director Nathan Hildebrand welcomes what he believes will be the beginning of a new era for football in Fiji.
“We are proud of our partnership with the Fiji FA and proud of everything we have achieved as a direct result of this partnership.
“Passion for football in Fiji remains high as ever and CJP Pacific remains just as passionate about the beautiful game.”
Hildebrand said that when they learnt that Vodafone Fiji shared their belief in Fiji FA’s potential, they decided on a consolidated effort that would achieve much more than either company could achieve individually.
“And more importantly together we could do much more for football.
“I would like to acknowledge our partner in this initiative, Vodafone Fiji who like us think that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
“Please let me reiterate this key point once again…we are working together with a common objective- the continued development of football in Fiji,” Hildebrand said.
Vodafone Fiji managing director, Aslam Khan said Vodafone, in partnership with CJ Patel Pacific Limited, are proud to join hands to sponsor the Fiji Football Association for the next five years with a sponsorship deal worth $5 million.
“The agreement is for three plus two years with an option to negotiate sponsorship amount after three years.
“This is unprecedented for soccer sponsorship in the country and demonstrates our joint desire to take football to where it rightfully belongs,” Khan said.
“Much has been said and debated about the sport; this is putting the money where the mouth is!!
Khan said Vodafone has been associated with soccer sponsorship for over seven years.
“Our partner, CJP Group has also been a sponsor for an equally same length of time.
“Our joint decision to support soccer with this sizeable sponsorship stems from the fact that large segments of our population who also happen to be customers are soccer crazy.
“One of the other reasons and possibly the more compelling reason for us to invest so heavily in the sport is because sport now offers our youth a positive and attractive paid career alternative,” he added.
