The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma looks forward to mark 50 years of becoming an independent conference in the New Year.
Church communication secretary Reverend James Bhagwan confirms that the church’s celebrations committee was already working out a programme.
“A programme that will run from the annual divisional meetings in April and May, include the annual conference in August and September and concludes in October, along with the re-dedication and opening of the refurbished Baker Memorial Church,” Reverend Bhagwan said.
He said 2014 would also see the finalisation, launch and implementation of the church’s Connexional plan.
The plan sets out the focus areas on which the church will concentrate for the next three to five years.
“This will be implemented at the Connexional (departmental) levels and also at divisional levels for the 56 divisions and spread down to the local churches,” Reverend Bhagwan said.
He said they would also continue to work on the revised constitution and policies and regulations of the church as part of the move to update the work of the church in the changing context of the 21st century.
“The church remains committed to both its pastoral/spiritual role and the social role it has played in Fiji since 1835 and will work with a renewed vigour in 2014,” he said.
