Army Lautoka won the opening match of the 2014 Bouganiville Challenge after defeating holders Fresh’et Navy 22-14 at Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Nabua, yesterday.
Lautoka coach Aminisitai Vatoga was elated at their win and commended his troops for a job well done.
“I just want to thank the boys for a good game. The boys stayed focused on the game plan, which was to make sure we outdo Navy. We’ve been preparing for this since training for the Lomavata 7s last weekend and it has paid off for us.”
Vatoga expressed his gratitude to sponsors Island Electrics for their continued support.
“I would also like to thank Raymond Singh. He has been instrumental in our win by providing us with training equipment as well as our uniforms. Their support has helped us in a long way in terms of preparations and for that we’re thankful.”
Vatoga was confident the team were capable of retaining the title if they keep to the game plan for their next match.
“The main objective now is to keep up this winning spirit and to maintain the win we’ll have to remain focused on the game plan in our next match so we’re looking forward to it.”
Army Lautoka are set to play Army Labasa in the next match up of the Bougainville Challenge next week.
