Bring out the talent in you and expose it to the world, says the Banaban Rural Women fashion show winner, Tabai Yavala.
The 46-year-old was chosen last night at the fashion show at the Banaban Community Hall in Suva to represent Banaban women in this year’s Rural Women’s Designer Awards in August.
Mrs Yavala said she was thrilled to be chosen as the winner and representing the Banaban community at the upcoming annual event.
“I was a former home economics teacher and I used to teach my students sewing where creativity was put out in clothes and papers,” she said.
“This was something that was my biggest motivation as I was able to put my creativity into designs and sew them up into shirts, dress and other linens. To represent my community provides an opportunity to showcase the glamorous culture and give fashion its own meaning.”
The mother of two, whose husband has been fully supportive, feels that men also play a huge role in inspiring and motivating their women.
“Life is hard now as things are getting expensive hence this is a way a woman can help her husband by coming up with business ideas,” Mrs Yavala said.
Meanwhile the ‘Women’s Exposition – Rural Women’s Designer Awards 2014,’ organised by Ministry of Women, is scheduled for August 6 to 8 at the Vodafone Arena.
