Another proposed political party applied for registration yesterday. The proposed Fiji United Freedom Party (FUFP) led by proposed President, Sri Lankan-born Jagath Karunaratne handed in over 6000 signatures and the $5005 registration fee.
Proposed party founder and likely leader, Nayagodamu Korovou said the initial name of the party was Fiji National Youth Party.
“We had to change the name to Fiji United Freedom Party because of certain clauses in the Constitution that prohibits the use of the term youth.
“We are just glad that we were able to put in our application – especially for our supporters,” Mr Korovou.
In an earlier interview, Mr Nayagodamu had said: “Politics is a game of probability, opportunity and we are going to play it clean and accountable.
“We are the only group that have been politically supporting the Government because we have something in common; our care for the poor students of Fiji.
“Our original manifesto was for free bus fares and we suggested that these students should have totally free school fees up to university.”
Like other registered political parties, the proposed Fiji United Freedom Party will now go through the verification process before it is officially registered.
