The theme for the Lautoka Scouts Rally is – “Building Bridges of Friendship”.
We agree with the Prime Minister who was the chief guest when he said – “that’s precisely what Fiji has to do as a nation – build bridges of friendship, not create chasms of suspicion.”
For the Scouts at the rally you are building bridges of friendship during the rally.
They should build those bridges not only between themselves but in their schools, communities and the nation – in every avenue of their life.
While building bridges of friendship they should be reminded that they need to care for each other, love each other and protect those who may not be as strong as they are. Scouting develops young Fijians – spiritually, morally, physically, and intellectually – and moulds them to be responsible, law-abiding, productive citizens. It prepares the youth for responsible leadership, guided by scouting ideals and principles.
Scouting has helped mould the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
They have played a great role in building the characters of countless thousands of our young people. They have played a great role in building the character of our nation.
As the Prime Minister said in many ways, the Scout Movement is a beacon for the nation as a whole and in this centenary year, I want to pay tribute to the Scouts in Fiji and thank them on behalf of every Fijian for their service to our nation.”
For the Scouts they live with their motto – “Be Prepared”. It means making sure as an individual that you have everything, you need to face up to any challenge. To be always ready to seize any opportunity that comes their way. Always be ready to use the skills they have acquired to help themselves, their family, their school, their community and their country.
We must all use and live with the scout motto.
