Keni Dakuidreketi and Kalivati Bakani are expected to be sentenced on Friday.

The duo appeared yesterday in the High Court in Suva before Justice Janaka Bandara.

Justice Bandara informed the court that he didn’t want to drag on with the case any longer.

Justice Bandara made the final statement of terms after Dakuidreketi’s lawyer, Wylie Clarke informed the court that his client’s four character witnesses would be available by Thursday or Friday.

Justice Bandara expects the character witnesses to be produced today.

He has also asked Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyer Rashmi Aslam to hand in his written submission yesterday so that the defence lawyers could make their final submissions today.

Bakani, the former general manager of the Native Land Trust Board (NLTB), had pleaded guilty to five counts of abuse of office before Justice Bandara on June 23.

Dakuidreketi, a former NLTB board member was found guilty of all five counts of abuse of office for the purpose of gain by Justice Bandara on August 7.

The charges relate to the alleged abuse of extinct mataqali funds, trust funds and Government grants.
