A fully formed foetus was found in a rubbish bin at Shirley Park in Lautoka yesterday.

Lautoka Town Council cleaner, Hari Singh said that he was scared when he first saw the wrapped foetus.

“I was really scared when I held the foetus, at first I thought it was left over meat but when I opened it I saw the small baby.

“Throughout my whole time cleaning at this park I have never come across such an incident; I have found mobile phones and money but not a dead baby,” he said. Mr Singh who has been cleaning Shirley Park for the last 17 years described his morning as unusual.

“I was just cleaning out the bins like any normal day when I saw the plastic wrap; something came onto me to check the wrap and that was when I found the baby.

“So I took the foetus to the Community Post with another colleague and reported the matter,” he said.

The foetus which was later confirmed by police as that of a baby girl is currently at the Lautoka Hospital for post mortem. Meanwhile Police are carrying out their investigations on the case and are calling on the public, if they have any information, to contact their nearest Police Station.
