Ms Julie-Ann Sarah Kiti Mock hopes to promote self defence classes for women as a safety measure but also as a necessary fitness and health tool.

The 23-year-old is sponsored by Fuji Xerox Business Centre in this year’s Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus festival.

“I love karate. I have been training for the past 15 years and I currently hold a first dan black belt since 2008,” Ms Mock said.

She had competed locally and internationally in this sport.

“I joined the Hibiscus festival because I wanted to try something new and with the help and support of my family and friends I filled out an application.”

Ms Mock said she wanted to use this opportunity to help minimise climate change and make Fiji safer for the upcoming generation.

“I want to portray that fitness and health are major issues that we usually take for granted aside from the rise in sea level and temperature change.”

She is doing a bachelor’s degree in psychology and human resource management at the University of the South Pacific.

“I want to go abroad to further my education in criminal psychology and return to Fiji to offer my knowledge and services mainly to the prisons.”

Ms Mock describes herself as open minded, determined and down to earth and she enjoys reading, watching movies and participating in various sports activities.
