16:14 2014

Defending champion Drasa Secondary School of Lautoka made an impressive start at the Vodafone Secondary Schools Football Championship 2014 at Govind Park in Ba.

The side in their first pool match defeated Naleba College of Labasa 1-0 and later defeated Kamil Muslim College of Ba 2-0 yesterday.

Laced with Fiji Under-20 national squad members, Ravnit Chand and Antonio Tuivuna, the side is hoping to have an undefeated run in the four-day tournament.

Lanky Drasa defender, Tuivuna, spearheaded his side to victory after securing three goals for his side from two matches.

Head coach Amol Prinal Reddy says the competition is getting tough each year.

“It will be four days of tough competition and we will give it our very best to retain the title,’’ Reddy said.

“The boys have performed well and we hope to do better in our other matches.”

He said the side had so far performed well and had stayed on track with the game plan.

“We have a few minor injuries to the side, but we will give it our very best,”Reddy said.

The side take on runners-up, Saraswati College today at 9.45am.

Meanwhile, the boy’s U17 division title is up for grabs after defending champions Kamil Muslim College failed to qualify from their district while U15 defending champions AD Patel College failed to impress yesterday.
