Fiji Football Association is looking at more ways to support the development of junior players through the Fiji Primary Schools Football Association (FPSFA) and the Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association (FSSFA).

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel made the comment during the official opening of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship 2014 at Govind Park, Ba yesterday.

He said they were putting more emphasis on development and this was the reason behind the $5million sponsorship deal signed earlier this year with Vodafone Fiji and CJ Patel Pacific Ltd.

“We wanted to make sure that we support development and that is the reason Vodafone and CJ Patel Pacific consortium was signed,’’ he said.

“It is an exciting moment for Fiji FA to make sure that the development of football is not to be neglected.”

Patel further said that Fiji FA was looking at ways to take the financial burden off the schools.

Thirty-four teams are participating at the tourney, which includes six teams in the girls’ division and has grown in stature since its inception in 1957.

Vodafone Fiji chief marketing officer Sanjeewa Perera says they are proud to support the development of football in the country.

“We are proud to be the name behind our football teams,”Perera said.

He says Vodafone Fiji is proud to be the name behind the development of football in the country and is confident that through the financial boost and training, it will help mould the young into stars of tomorrow.
