Woman to pay $11K

A 26-year-old woman was ordered by the High Court on Wednesday to pay $11,882 in compensation to Kramer Ausenco (Fiji) Limited.

This is after she was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment suspended for three years by the High Court in Suva on charges of obtaining a gain, causing a loss and obtaining financial advantage.

The court heard that on April 27, Ashneeta Swamy of Cunningham, Suva, an employee of Kramer Ausenco (Fiji) Limited, was given a blank cheque by her office manager for the purpose of purchasing a digital camera for official use.

Swamy took the blank cheque to TappooCity where she found a digital camera that had a price of $288.

She dishonestly used the blank cheque entrusted to her by entering the amount $576 instead of $288 and bought two digital cameras totalling $576. On the second count on April 19, 2013, Swamy dishonestly used the company’s LPO number 1250 to purchase an Air Pacific ticket.

On the third count, on May 9, 2013, Swamy dishonestly used the company’s LPO again to purchase two return Air Pacific tickets from Nadi to Sydney, Australia amounting to $2508.80.

On the fourth count, between January and May 2013 she dishonestly falsified her working records by claiming to have worked on the days she was granted leave without pay where she had not worked.On the fifth count, between May 2012 and May 2013 on various occasions whilst working for the same company she misused petty cash funds totaling $7762.52.

Swamy has been ordered by the court to pay $11,882 in compensation to Kramer Ausenco (Fiji) Limited and her sentence has been suspended for three years.
