More than 200 students, teachers, parents and ex-scholars celebrated Labasa College’s 60th birthday in Labasa yesterday.

The diamond jubilee celebration was full of dancing and excitement as students celebrated with ex-scholars and parents.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Viliame Naupoto, the chief guest, said the school had come through a lot.

“It is the only Government school in the North and it produced great academic results. It is such a great achievement for the school.

“The school has come a long way from 1954. The theme ‘Sustaining a Legacy of Excellence’ is really suitable for such a celebration.” Mr Naupoto said.

“The parents and teachers should be encouraging students to make use of the free education provided by the present government, not only free education but also transportation for students” he said.

Ex- scholar Luisa Ratuvuku said she was honoured to come through such a great institution.

“Our most sincere gratitude to those who initiated the idea of establishing a great school over 60 years ago” she said.

“Their work and wisdom has given us the opportunity to go through this remarkable institution and become successful citizens for the country and beyond” Mrs Ratuvuku said.

“To the current Labasa College students… success stories of Labasa College did not happen by coincident, but through perseverance, 100 per cent commitment, and hard work” she said.
