Nadi School Wins Tadra Kahani
GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT… Team Fiji men’s triple jump star Eugene Vollmer prays with arch-rival and close friend Penial Richard of Papua New Guinea. Richard won the gold medal with a jump of 15.45m while Vollmer took out silver with a leap of 15.30m. “We’re spiritual brothers,” said Vollmer. “I’m not happy with my performance but can’t complain, he was the better athlete on the day.” The duo had been competing against each for the last five years. Swami Vivekananda College of Nadi was crowned the 2014 Tadra Kahani winner at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Thursday night.

The school won $2500 plus two special awards – the Connect Best Set and Backdrop Design and the Connect Best Costume and Make-Up.

The team’s theme was ‘Climate Change- You Control.’

Their message was displayed in dance, music and choreographed moves which received a standing ovation and cheers from the audience.

School assistant principal Geeta Krishna said the win was a big achievement for the school.

“It’s fulfilling to be named winners of this year’s Tadra Kahani because our hard work has paid off,” Ms Krishna said.

“The concept was challenging for us in the beginning, but the students worked hard and kept on improving in rehearsals and during practice sessions. We chose our theme because it affects all of us.”

The school had won the inaugural concert in 1994, then known as Rock Challenge.

Meanwhile, Fiji LDS Church College won the Best Choreography, Best Soundtrack, Best Lighting and the Special Concept awards.

The Best Audience Response was awarded to Gospel High School.
