Yesterday marked another milestone for Labasa Town when the Minister for Immigration, Joketani Cokanasiga, commissioned the new office at Ratu Raobe Building.

The new building will benefit the people of Labasa because they do not have to travel to Savusavu for any queries about immigration.

Mr Cokanasiga said the new office would serve the people of Macuata in so many ways.

“People of Caumatalevu don’t have to travel all the way to Savusavu to get their passports done,” Mr Cokanasiga said.

“The new office will benefit the people of Labasa and people visiting the town. It is about time for Labasa to have its own Immigration office because of Malau port where people come in and out for the sugar export and the bauxite in Bua.

“The office will also serve people applying for dual citizenship and for those people who want to apply for visas.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa said with the new office people of Labasa would not have to depend on travel agents where they have to pay so much money.

“We advertised for 34 vacant positions and it is all filled and 10 of these new staff will be based in Labasa,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.
