Check Your Electrical Appliances

This week the National Fire Authority (NFA) advises members of the community on the importance of fire safety with the use of electrical appliances, cords and outlets.

Electrical appliances, cords and outlets can easily cause a fire at home if an extra care is not taken.

The NFA advises members of the community to follow the following important fire safety tips with regards to electrical appliances, cords and outlets to avoid a fire.

• Ensure that your electrical appliances is not loose or frayed

• Outlets should never be overloaded with plugs from the TV, computer, printer, video game system, stereo and other electrical appliances etc as it can start a fire easily.

• Replace or get a qualified electrician to check and repair any appliances that spark, smell unusual or overheat.

• Don’t run electrical wires under rugs.

• Make sure lamps and night-lights are not touching bed or other fabrics.

• Before leaving home or going to bed, ensure that all electrical appliances are switched off properly to avoid any risk of a fire from happening in your property in your absence while you are away or sleeping.
