Sleepless Nights For Only Child

Paulini Cavubati cries every night since her dad and 44 other Fijian United Nations peacekeepers were detained by Syrian rebels.

Paulini, Sergeant Viliame Cavubati’s only child, said last night: “It’s a nightmare. It haunts me. I have been having sleepless nights.”
The indomitable bond between them makes it difficult for her to accept the truth.

The only consolation for her is the assurance by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, yesterday that everything was being done to secure the Fijians’ release from the location where they are being held by al-Nusra.

An emotional Paulini, 22, who is studying for a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering at the Fiji National University, said her father was someone she could always rely on.

“The last thing my father told me before he departed was that when he comes back he wanted me to show him my certificate as I will be graduating,” she said.

“I do not know how I will do without him because he was always there for me when I needed a shoulder to lean on.

“When I saw the pictures in the social media I cried because I don’t know what he is going through despite hearing that they are safe from different sources.”
