Lavenia Dickinson and Julius Zsadony were crowned the Nadi triathlon champion last Saturday.

Zsadony and Dickson scooped the men’s and women’s titles respectively.

Zsadony, of APTC, finished second in the sprint distance with a time of 1hour 24minutes and 20seconds. (Swim 16mins10sec/ Cycle 48mins 8sec/ Run 20mins 2sec).

Dickinson came first overall with the time of 1 hr 22min 30sec (swim 13mins 10sec/Cycle 47mins 8secs/ run 22 mins 12sec).

Nadi Triathlon Association secretary Tui Valentine commended the pair.

“There were some personal best times produced on the day. There were two Under-14 teams and three Individual Sprint Distance participants,” Valentine said.

“It was a perfect day at the race, despite the sun heating up the running course. From 6 year olds to 60 – age is not a barrier in the sport as Elizabeth King is challenging the community that age is nothing but numbers, if she can do it – anybody can.”

Savanah Mercer, 6, youngest competitor teamed up with her brother Jordan Mercer, 9 and cousin Amber Huriwai, 9 for their Team Cuzzies came first in the Under 14 category (150swim/5km bike/1.25run) with the time of 26 mins 32 sec (4.30mins – swim/15mins cycle/7.02 mins Run).

Elizabeth King, 60, teamed up with her grandsons; Aaron, 9, and Kaylan, 8, (150swim – 16.50mins/5km Cycle – 17mins/1.25km run – 9mins) and finished with a time of 42min 15sec.

The next races will be on September 28 and October 18.
