Group Aims To Improve Quality Of Elections

The Multinational Observer Group (MOG) is working towards improving the quality of the election process. Election observer Tim Meisburger said their duty as observers is to see that the electoral process is fair and just.

“If we see any problems and there are some concerns and we don’t articulate those early to the Government then there is no possibility of addressing these issues so one of the things we want the observers to do is to improve the quality of the elections,” Mr Meisburger said.

“If we find any problems early we will want to inform Government so they can address them moving forward so that the process on election day can be as good as it can be.”

Group co-ordinator Andrew Golednowski said there are currently 19 long-term observers while 29 accredited observers of the confirmed 65  who are short-term observers had been deployed to pre polling areas. More are expected to join the group over the coming weeks.
