The Fijian Elections Office yesterday confirmed that voters who had lost their voter registration cards could still vote.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said these people could still vote provided the voter produced another valid ID card to the presiding officers at the polling stations.

“You can still vote if you have lost your ID cards; simply produce another ID and we will be able to verify your details and allow you to vote,” Mr Saneem said.

“The presiding officer will be able to verify by asking you some questions and will allow you to vote.

“If your Voter ID has gone missing, don’t despair you can still vote, please come to the polling stations and the presiding officer will take you through the process.”

He reiterated that elections staff would be offering assistance to voters who needed help.

“I encourage voters to take advantage of the assistance and please do not wait for the last minute; go early so that you can cast your vote on time because when you get there when pre-polling closes we will not allow you to vote.”

Mr Saneem said they had also learned valuable lessons going into the pre-polling which was going to be useful in the September 17 election.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Elections Office would be holding an open day in Suva today to try and secure 160 staff as elections result workers..
