The Prime Minister clarified to those at Vanuakula Village in Ra the claim by One Fiji Party on the new birth certificate. A woman said that during the One Fiji Party campaign at the village they were told that there would be a new birth certificate for the iTaukei people.

She said the new birth certificate would be totally different from the current one where all the iTaukei particulars were included.

In his reply, the PM said nothing had changed and there would be no changes.

He told the villagers he had heard of this where there would be no tokatoka, mataqali and no Ratu and Adi in the birth certificates.

“I must confirm to you that no one can change our Vola ni Kawa Bula,” the Prime Minister said.

On the claim by One Fiji that the iTaukei land was not secure, he said this was another lie. Mr Bainimarama said the claim was the same as SODELPA’s.

“When the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenianua (SDL) was in power it alllowed the conversion of native land to freehold title. Now the SDL had changed its name to SODELPA and the members remained,” he reminded villagers.
