What happened: Samuela Ravula scored the crucial try for the Concrete Solutions Qauia Green at Buckhurst Park in Suva yesterday.

The team won the RC Manubhai Suva Rugby Union (SRU) Ambassadors Trophy beating FMG USON 25-22.

Qauia Green Coach Orisi Matakasa praised his team’s performance for winning the final.

“The players played their hearts out to win and I’m impressed. This is the first time that we are playing at this level of competition and the win is huge,” Matakasa said.

Down 10-12 at half-time, Qauia Green came back strongly in the second half to win their first final.

Qauia Green took an early lead in the 3rd minute after Apisai Driu’s kicked a penalty.

USON came back strongly and scored a try to take the lead in the 5th minute to lead 5-3.

But disaster struck for USON after they were reduced to 14 men following a red card incident.

Qauia Green took advantage of this situation and came back strongly to win the match in the second half.

Comments: USON manager Tubola Turaganivalu applauded his players.

“We played with 14 players for most of the match and that was a setback,”he said.  “This is the first time that we’re playing at this level of competition and I am impressed with the overall performance of players.”

Suva Rugby president Commander Francis Kean praised both sides.

“It was a successful end to this grade final,” he said.

“We are now left with the Koroturaga and the Premier grades.”

RC Manubhai operations manager Oscar Del Mel said they are proud to be associated with Suva Rugby.

“We’ve always supported the development of sport in the country and we are proud to support SRU.”

Meanwhile, the SRU is calling on all their fans for support as the RC Manubhai Suva challenges for the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge against BLK Nadroga this Saturday.

The SRU Tee-shirts are on sale at the Vuala Clothing Outlet which is located at the Suva Central.
