Fijian rugby players continue to impress in Europe.

This was evident during the weekend in the Aviva Premiership in England and the Top 14 competition in France..

And Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee says the players are highly likely to be included in the Europe Tour in November

Featuring for the Leicester Tigers, Vereniki Goneva scored a hat-trick during their 36-17 victory over Newcastle.

Leicester  Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill admitted Vereniki Goneva was “a bit fortunate” to score the third of his hattrick of tries which sealed their victory.

Goneva had initially come close to joining French Top 14 side Castres at the end of last season but stayed after lengthy talks and an increase in salary.

Cockerill said: “He came pretty close to going, but it helped that Seremaia Bai came, and the grass is not always greener. Niki was happy here but, like with everything, you have to make it work financially.”

Meanwhile, across the channel former Vodafone Fiji 7s rep Benito Masilevu played a major role in Brive’s surprise 26-19 victory over powerhouse Toulouse.

Masilevu left the visitors stunned with seven minutes to play after they had fought back from a 10-point deficit to draw level and Gaetan Germain’s conversion gave Brive a seven-point advantage they would not relinquish.

Elsewhere, Grenoble cruised to a second straight win as they had far too much for La Rochelle at the Stade des Alpes, running out 30-12 winners in the end with another former Fijian 7s flyer, Alipate Ratini scoring a crucial try that helped his side win.

Stade Francais ran in five tries as they got back to winning ways with a 34-29 success over Bayonne with former Fijian 7s player Waisea Nayacalevu tallying a try of his own.

.“Certainly, Vereniki sits very high on our list of players that we want,”McKee said.

“Unfortunately he was injured in June so he couldn’t come and play in the test matches but he is definitely on the list for the Europe  Tour.

“We’ve actually got about 50 players that are contracted all over the world and we’ve been monitoring them and their performance.

“Ratini has been in great form at Grenoble and Masilevu has been outstanding scoring a number of tries for Brive.

“We’re keeping a close eye on all these players and we’re also monitoring our players in the ITM Cup in New Zealand.”
