The Navosa football team is confident of a positive performance ahead of the 39th CJ Patel Fiji Primary Schools Inter-District Championships which starts at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

Navosa players had a feel of the ANZ Stadium turf yesterday – some of them for the first time.

Their Under-12 head coach Nitesh Chand believes they are not in the capital to make the numbers, instead to win.

“We are happy to be part of the competition this year, thanks to our parents, schools, teachers and the Navosa community for their support,” he said.

“The players have prepared well and all are looking forward to a good game tomorrow (today),” Chand said.

Forty players represent Navosa District team in their grade teams.

They are expected to put up a good show in their U14 team against Nalawa at 9:30am while their U12 meets Ba at 11:20am.

Fiji Primary School Soccer Association secretary Narendra Rao confirmed the number of participating teams in the U14 grades have increased to 20 this year, while eight districts in the U12 category.

“We are anticipating an exciting match this year looking at the increase of teams.

“We want the best for our players that are why we have booked the ANZ Stadium for these young boys to compete in.

“Even though the venue might be expensive, it will be worth it as these young boys will put up a good show,” Rao said.

Pool A: Labasa, Rakiraki, Seaqaqa, Nadroga, Rewa

Pool B: Lautoka, Ba, Dreketi, Nadi, Navua

Pool C: Tavua, Nadroga, Bua, Nadroga, Tailevu

Pool D: Nasinu, Nalawa, Savusavu, Navosa, Suva

U12 playoff:

Pool A: Nadroga, Navua, Tavua, Lautoka

Pool B: Ba, Navosa, Dreketi, Rewa
