Former Vodafone Fiji 7s winger Benito Masilevu has extended his contract with Top 14 side Brive in France for two seasons.

The club, which plays in the Top 14 tournament, confirmed this on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Fijian school teacher, started well with the club when he scored the try which enabled Brive to win 26-17 against Toulouse last Saturday.

Masilevu, of Lomaiviti Rugby Club in Suva, will remain with the club until 2018. He joined Brive last June on a two-year deal.

He was the second highest try scorer in last season’s IRB Sevens World Series with 27 tries over the nine-leg tournament.

“I’m very happy to continue the adventure here, Brive gave me the opportunity to play in the TOP 14,” Masilevu said.

“This is the best team in the world and I thank the entire sports staff who trusted me,” Masilevu said.

Club vice-president Max Mamers said they were happy to have the services of the speedster who will now start worrying oppositions.

“We are proud to welcome to our group for the next two seasons 24-year-old Benito Masilevu,” he said.

“He was spotted this summer by Nicolas Godignon who is coach-manager for the club. The ‘ magician Fijian should worry opposing defences with his speed and deadly pressure,” Mamers said.

Godignon said Benito fitted well into the mood of the group and was able to realise the efforts of the team.

“We know it will serve the common good to advance the team,” Godignon said.
