A flat at the Levuka Police barracks on Ovalau was destroyed by fire yesterday morning.

Chief executive officer of the National Fire Authority John O’Connor said they received a fire report from Police at around 8.45am.

“We received a report that there was an explosion and a fire at one of the blocks at the Police barracks. When our team arrived the fire had already engulfed one of the four flats on that block,” Mr O’Connor said.

He said the fire crew managed to put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to other flats.

Investigation as to the cause of the fire continues.
