Lynda Tabuya says the general election has been a long time coming.

The People’s Democratic Party president said: “It’s a great day for Fiji and we need to celebrate this day no matter what  the outcome says.”

She made the remarks at the Tamavua Village Hall, Suva, yesterday.

She said she was happy to exercise her right to vote.

“It has been a difficult journey for Fiji and we hope that fairness and freedom for people would prevail,” Ms Tabuya said.

She said just to see the number of people come out to cast their votes was very encouraging.

“It has been a crash course in political enlightenment for the people of Fiji, especially to the youths who are voting for the first time,” she said.

“Because the age has moved from 21 to 18 people up to 28 and 29 years of age are voting for the first time because they did not vote before when they were 21,” Ms Tabuya said.
