The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is now on stand-by until a new government is sworn in.

This was confirmed yesterday by the RFMF Commander, Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga.

He said the Fiji Police Force were now in control however section 131 (2) of the Constitution clearly stated – “It shall be the responsibility of the Republic of  Fiji Military Forces to ensure at all tmes the security, defence and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians.

“We will stand by that and I assure all that the general election will be safe and likewise all Fijians.”

The RFMF he said would at all times protect the Constitution and the people.

He reminded all that the RFMF remained apolitical and at no time would support a political party.

Once the new governent is sworn in, he said the RFMF would give its total support to it.
