The Vodafone Fiji Under-20 team will feature in the inaugural edition of the Oceania Football Confederation President’s Cup on November 17-23 at Trusts Arena, Auckland, New Zealand.

The Ravinesh Kumar-coached side has qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup next year in New Zealand and will treat the tournament as a build up for the players.

“Going up against teams such as Auckland City FC and Amicale will really help the boys gain a lot of experience,” Kumar said.

“It will also give them an idea of what to expect from teams they will be playing in the World Cup so this exposure in the President’s Cup will really benefit the team as a whole.”

The U20 will be competing against five other teams from three confederations which include Kiwi and Oceania champions Auckland City FC, Amicale of Vanuatu, Bodden Town from the Cayman Islands, former Bahraini champions Busaiteen FC and Singapore U23.

The competition will be played in two groups of three teams with the top team in each section advancing to the final.

The squad has been released to play for their districts and will be in camp again on October 19 before they depart for Australia.

Kumar said their outing in Australia will give him the opportunity to gauge the players on their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat (SWOT) before he names his final team in the President’s Cup.

“We will be departing for Australia on November 2 for warm up games,” Kumar said.
