The Swami Vivekananda College (SVC) Ex-scholars Association yesterday acknowledged their former school for its success this year.

This follows the school’s crowning as the champions of the 2014 Tadra Kahani last month in Suva and their win in the Girls Division of the National Primary and Secondary Schools Swimming Championship also in Suva earlier this year.

SVC had won the Tadra Kahani in 1995 when it was known as the Rock Challenge – a lapse of 19 years.

Association president Vineel Nand said they teamed up with the Nadi Town Council, the Nadi District office and the Diwali Festival of Lights Committee to honour the school.

“It was a very proud moment for the school to achieve success during the 2014 academic year and we hope the school achieves more success in the future,’’ Mr Nand said.

Themed ‘Climate Change-You Control,” the school won $2500 plus two special awards – the Best Set and Backdrop Design and the Best Costume and Make Up.

This was complemented by the schools’ dedicated swimmers winning a total of 35 medals during the swimming championship.

School principal Rajesh Krishna said the event was organised to motivate their students and encourage more youths to participate in such activities.

He said the theme was aimed at the future generation because they would be the ones to control the environment.

However, it was a challenge for the school to endorse a formidable act and for the students to go the extra mile.

“Apart from academic, we have to expose students to other areas such as sports and performing arts,’’ the principal said.

Mr Krishna further said the school had set a standard at the Tadra Kahani and come next year, they will go up a level.
