Former Fiji Pine Trust chief executive officer Osea Naiqamu was farewelled by the Fiji Pine staff at Hotel 2000 in Lautoka yesterday.

He is the new Minister for Fisheries and Forests after he was sworn in at Government House on Wednesday following the 2014 General Elections.

“I did not expect it to be this big and I am so amazed at the number of people who are present here today. It shows your support,” Mr Naiqamu told the gathering.

He thanked his staff the staff for their support during his tenure.

Mr Naiqamu also acknowledged the presence of the Fiji Pine Group of Companies executive chairman Faiz Khan.

“I want to thank Mr Khan for helping us unite together as Pine landowners and for his work towards the industry and not forgetting the Honourable Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for believing in me as my role as the Minister for Fisheries and Forest.”

He reminded the landowners to utilise their land in such a way where people would benefit.

“This maybe a farewell for my former colleague Mr Naiqamu but it is also a welcoming ceremony as the new Minister for Fisheries and Forests.

“It is a new chapter for all of us present here and we congratulate him for his great achievement,” Mr Khan said.

Also present was the Tui Bua, Ratu Suliasi Matavesi, who travelled from Bua, Vanua Levu, to congratulate Mr Naiqamu.

Present at the ceremony were staff and members of Fiji Pine Limited, Fiji Pine Trust, Callison Pacific Pine Chemicals, Forest Based Companies landowners and Forest Based Trust landowners.

Ratu Pio Bolobolo will be acting in Mr Naiqamu’s former post.
